2 Corinthians 13:11 (KJV) Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

In the final greeting of 2 Corinthians there are four things we are asked to do:

  1. Be perfect (Become complete in the NKJV)
  2. Be of good comfort
  3. Be of one mind
  4. Live in peace

This if followed by promise that Jesus Christ, who is GOD, who is love and peace will be with us.

Todays let us be encouraged by the second of these, “Be of good comfort”.

What does be of good comfort mean?
Thayer Definition is:
1) to call to one’s side, call for, summon
2) to address, speak to, (call to, call upon), which may be done in the way of exhortation, entreaty, comfort, instruction, etc.
2a) to admonish, exhort
2b) to beg, entreat, beseech
2b1) to strive to appease by entreaty
2c) to console, to encourage and strengthen by consolation, to comfort
2c1) to receive consolation, be comforted
2d) to encourage, strengthen
2e) exhorting and comforting and encouraging
2f) to instruct, teach

There are only two ways I can think of that will help us be of good comfort.

  1. When we spend time with Jesus Christ in our private place praying and reading the scriptures letting the Holy Spirit teach us.
  2. When we gather together with other brothers and sisters who are of the same mind in the LORD.

Therefore let us be encouraged to endeavour to ally the LORD daily and fellowship with one another as much as possible.

Let us pray. Father in the name of Jesus Christ, we thank you for placing us in your body and help us to be of good comfort to others and conspire us as needed. Help us to sit at your sweet every day to learn from you and put into action what you show us. Amen.
