Prayer in despair answered – 2024.11.12

1 Kings 19:2-6 (KJV)
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

After a great victory Elijah was persecuted and was miserable. Just like Elijah, there are times we despair and pray in a negative sense like David prayed in the psalms multiple times as well.

Then there is the “But GOD”. He answers us in unexpected ways. He is in control, always and we can keep turning in Him, no matter what. What would even be better than keep turning to Him is to keep Him fully in our sight. Just like Elijah after great distress He leads us to His mountain and speaks giving us a new perspective (read 1 Kings 19:7-18). How good, merciful, patient, long suffering, and kind is our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ! “Psalms 107:1 (KJV) O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”,
“Psalms 107:4-9 (KJV) They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. [5] Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. [6] Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. [7] And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. [8] Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! [9] For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”

Actually have a read of all of Psalms 107 to see how the LORD GOD almighty answers when we turn to and call on Him. “Psalms 107:43 (KJV) Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.”

Be encouraged today. No matter what is happening, if we believe and look to Jesus Christ we can trust Him that He will is in control. In the end it will work out for good (maybe not how we envisaged but how GOD planned) as it says in Romans 8:25-30 (KJV) “But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. [26] Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27] And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. [28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. [29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. [30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
