The Holy Spirit and intercession – 2024.11.18

Romans 8:26-28 (KJV)
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
GOD knows everything and we do not know much at all. He knows what is going on and what will happen and the reasons for it. Therefore we just need to trust in the LORD.

Jesus Christ asked us to pray as follows:
“Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. [10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. [11] Give us this day our daily bread. [12] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

Often we find ourself lacking in what and how to pray for a specific situation. Thank GOD He is here to help us even in this. As His children we want to see His will and pray according to it. “1 John 5:14 (KJV) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:”

Therefore Jesus Christ has given us the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist said about Jesus “Mark 1:8 (KJV) I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.” And Jesus told us:

  • “John 14:26 (KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
  • “Luke 24:49 (KJV) And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
  • “Acts 1:4-5 (KJV) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. [5] For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us and when we pray in the Holy Spirit in the heavenly languages He gives us we. Just like Paul said:

  • “1 Corinthians 14:2 (KJV) For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”
  • “1 Corinthians 14:4 (KJV) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.”
  • “1 Corinthians 14:18 (KJV) I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:”

I believe that there are two type of tongues one it for public use the other for private use and they have a different purpose. One day we might cover this in one of the devotions. The above relates to private tongues were we speak to GOD by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit intercedes for us as we read in Romans and also through us as we read in 1 Corinthians. Talking about intercession Jesus Christ also intercedes for us “Hebrews 7:24-25 (KJV) But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. [25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”. Maybe Jesus Christ intercedes for us through the Holy Spirit.

Be encouraged today and know that GOD himself is praying for us and we can cooperate in His prayer when we pray in the private tongues He has given us. So if we don’t know what to pray lets pray in the Holy Spirit.
