What is more important? – 2025.01.09

2 Chronicles 1:7-13 (KJV)
7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.
9 Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13 Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.

We can ask GOD for many things but Solomon has chosen to ask what is most important which is wisdom and knowledge.
The other things listed here like: riches, wealth, honour, victory over enemies and long life would be an obvious choice for many people. These things might give short term selfish benefits but do not consider eternal values and the impact on other people. These things are insignificant compared to wisdom and knowledge.

Solomon did what is written in Proverbs 7:4 (KJV) “Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:”.

Wisdom and true knowledge come form GOD as He posses all wisdom. “James 1:5 (KJV) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”. It is the same with knowledge. “Romans 11:33 (KJV) O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”. The most important knowledge is to know who Jesus Christ is. “Matthew 16:16-17 (KJV) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”

Wisdom is defined as “1. The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight. 2. Common sense; good judgment”. It is the ability to apply and use knowledge. One needs to have knowledge to use wisdom and one needs to have vision to apply knowledge.

Therefore let us be encouraged today when we need to make decisions and judgements to ask GOD for wisdom and knowledge. He will guide us by His word and the Holy Spirit. “Psalms 119:105 (KJV) NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”. “John 14:26 (KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
