Ephesians 6:18 (KJV) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
We are in a battle, each one of us, as we can see from the verses that preceded this (10-17) encouragement to watch and pray for the family of GOD.
We are to not neglect this but pray on an ongoing, regular basis, making it a habit, not sporadicly, not as an isolated act “1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV) Pray without ceasing.”. We are to pray not just for ourself but for all the church. We can also see this in the LORD’s prayer (Matthew 6:915) it always says “us” not “me”.
The LORD encourages us not just to pray but to be watchful in our prayers. The Believer’s Bible Commentary puts it this way “We must watch against drowsiness, mind-wandering, and preoccupation with other things. Prayer requires spiritual keenness, alertness, and concentration. And there must be perseverance in prayer.”. Watching also includes We also need to be aware of what is going on in he physical and spiritual realm. A watchman on a watchtower needs to be already but also on the lookout as far as he can see. “Ephesians 6:12 (KJV) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
We are to persevere in our watching and prayer for each other, not give up, in our prayers, no matter how we feel or what we see. “Luke 11:9 (KJV) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”. We are not alone or helpless in our prayers. Jesus Christ has given us the Holy Spirit who helps us to pray. That is why we are to pray in the Spirit and also in understanding “1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (KJV) For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”.
Be encouraged, therefore, to persevere in your prayers for the family of GOD, we are not alone in this battle but to stand and pray for each other.
