2 Timothy 1:6-7 (KJV)
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
GOD the Father, Jesus Christ – GOD the son and GOD the Holy Spirit give gifts. “1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (KJV) Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.”. Maybe another time we can look at this in more detail. For now the important thing to know is that GOD gives us gifts, in and through various ways, and we need to stir them up and use them. What des it mean to stir up your gift? I believe it means to use it, to practice it. When we don’t use our muscles for example they remain weak or even become weaker but when we exercise them they become stronger. So it is with spiritual gifts. We need to exercise them and as we use them they will grow. It is like the principle of faithfulness. When we have shown ourself faithful in little we will receive more.
One thing that can hinder us from using (or limit the use of) the gifts GOD has given us is fear. Thank GOD that GOD is greater than fear and gives us love, power and a sound mind to overcome this fear that tries to limit us. “1 John 4:18 (KJV) There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” His love and our love for Him overcome fear. Fear or failure, fear of men, ….
Therefore let us encourage one another to discover, stir up and use the gifts GOD has freely given to us “Matthew 10:8 (KJV) Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
