Proverbs Chapter 1:1-33
Purpose of Proverbs
1 ๐บ The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
2 ๐บ to know wisdom and instruction;
3 ๐บ to receive instruction in wise dealing,
4 ๐บ to give prudence to the simple,
5 ๐บ that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning;
6 ๐บ to understand a proverb and parables,
7 ๐บ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge,
A Fatherโs Warning Against Sinners
8 ๐บ My son, listen to your fatherโinstruction,
9 ๐บ for they will be a garland to grace your head,
10 ๐บ My son, if sinners entice you,
11 ๐บ If they say, โCome with us.
12 ๐บ Letโswallow them up alive like Sheol,
13 ๐บ Weโll find all valuable wealth.
14 ๐บ You shall cast your lot among us.
15 ๐บ my son, donโt walk on the path with them.
16 ๐บ for their feet run to evil.
17 ๐บ For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;
18 ๐บ but these lay in wait for their own blood.
19 ๐บ So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain.
Wisdom Calls Out
20 ๐บ Wisdom calls aloud in the street.
21 ๐บ She calls at the head of noisy places.
22 ๐บ โHow long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?
23 ๐บ Turn at my reproof.
24 ๐บ Because I have called, and you have refused;
25 ๐บ but you have ignored all my counsel,
26 ๐บ I also will laugh at your disaster.
27 ๐บ when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
28 ๐บ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer.
29 ๐บ because they hated knowledge,
30 ๐บ They wanted none of my counsel.
31 ๐บ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way,
32 ๐บ For the backsliding of the simple will kill them.
33 ๐บ But whoever listens to me will dwell securely,
Proverbs Chapter 2:1-22
The Value of Wisdom
1 ๐บ My son, if you will receive my words,
2 ๐บ so as to turn your ear to wisdom,
3 ๐บ yes, if you call out for discernment,
4 ๐บ if you seek her as silver,
5 ๐บ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh,
6 ๐บ For Yahweh gives wisdom.
7 ๐บ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright.
8 ๐บ that he may guard the paths of justice,
9 ๐บ Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
10 ๐บ For wisdom will enter into your heart.
11 ๐บ Discretion will watch over you.
Deliverance from Evil Men
12 ๐บ to deliver you from the way of evil,
13 ๐บ who forsake the paths of uprightness,
14 ๐บ who rejoice to do evil,
15 ๐บ who are crooked in their ways,
Deliverance from the Forbidden Woman
16 ๐บ to deliver you from the strange woman,
17 ๐บ who forsakes the friend of her youth,
18 ๐บ for her house leads down to death,
19 ๐บ None who go to her return again,
20 ๐บ Therefore walk in the way of good men,
21 ๐บ For the upright will dwell in the land.
22 ๐บ But the wicked will be cut off from the land.
Proverbs Chapter 3:1-35
Trust in the LORD
1 ๐บ My son, donโt forget my teaching,
2 ๐บ for they will add to you length of days,
3 ๐บ Donโt let kindness and truth forsake you.
4 ๐บ So you will find favor,
5 ๐บ Trust in Yahweh with all your heart,
6 ๐บ In all your ways acknowledge him,
7 ๐บ Donโt be wise in your own eyes.
8 ๐บ It will be health to your body,
9 ๐บ Honor Yahweh with your substance,
10 ๐บ so your barns will be filled with plenty,
11 ๐บ My son, donโt despise Yahwehโdiscipline,
12 ๐บ for whom Yahweh loves, he corrects,
Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom
13 ๐บ Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
14 ๐บ For her good profit is better than getting silver,
15 ๐บ She is more precious than rubies.
16 ๐บ Length of days is in her right hand.
17 ๐บ Her ways are ways of pleasantness.
18 ๐บ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her.
19 ๐บ By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth.
20 ๐บ By his knowledge, the depths were broken up,
Wisdom Gives Security
21 ๐บ My son, let them not depart from your eyes.
22 ๐บ so they will be life to your soul,
23 ๐บ Then you shall walk in your way securely.
24 ๐บ When you lie down, you will not be afraid.
25 ๐บ Donโt be afraid of sudden fear,
26 ๐บ for Yahweh will be your confidence,
Practical Counsel
27 ๐บ Donโt withhold good from those to whom it is due,
28 ๐บ Donโt say to your neighbor, โGo, and come again;
29 ๐บ Donโt devise evil against your neighbor,
30 ๐บ Donโt strive with a man without cause,
31 ๐บ Donโt envy the man of violence.
32 ๐บ For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh,
33 ๐บ Yahwehโcurse is in the house of the wicked,
34 ๐บ Surely he mocks the mockers,
35 ๐บ The wise will inherit glory,
Proverbs Chapter 4:1-27
A Fatherโs Instruction
1 ๐บ Listen, sons, to a fatherโinstruction.
2 ๐บ for I give you sound learning.
3 ๐บ For I was a son to my father,
4 ๐บ He taught me, and said to me:
5 ๐บ Get wisdom.
6 ๐บ Donโt forsake her, and she will preserve you.
7 ๐บ Wisdom is supreme.
8 ๐บ Esteem her, and she will exalt you.
9 ๐บ She will give to your head a garland of grace.
The Way of Wisdom
10 ๐บ Listen, my son, and receive my sayings.
11 ๐บ I have taught you in the way of wisdom.
12 ๐บ When you go, your steps will not be hampered.
13 ๐บ Take firm hold of instruction.
14 ๐บ Donโt enter into the path of the wicked.
15 ๐บ Avoid it, and donโt pass by it.
16 ๐บ For they donโt sleep unless they do evil.
17 ๐บ For they eat the bread of wickedness
18 ๐บ But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light
19 ๐บ The way of the wicked is like darkness.
Guard Your Heart
20 ๐บ My son, attend to my words.
21 ๐บ Let them not depart from your eyes.
22 ๐บ For they are life to those who find them,
23 ๐บ Keep your heart with all diligence,
24 ๐บ Put away from yourself a perverse mouth.
25 ๐บ Let your eyes look straight ahead.
26 ๐บ Make the path of your feet level.
27 ๐บ Donโt turn to the right hand nor to the left.
Proverbs Chapter 5:1-23
Warning Against Adultery
1 ๐บ My son, pay attention to my wisdom.
2 ๐บ that you may maintain discretion,
3 ๐บ For the lips of an adulteress drip honey.
4 ๐บ but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood,
5 ๐บ Her feet go down to death.
6 ๐บ She gives no thought to the way of life.
7 ๐บ Now therefore, my sons, listen to me.
8 ๐บ Remove your way far from her.
9 ๐บ lest you give your honor to others,
10 ๐บ lest strangers feast on your wealth,
11 ๐บ You will groan at your latter end,
12 ๐บ and say, โHow I have hated instruction,
13 ๐บ I havenโt obeyed the voice of my teachers,
14 ๐บ I have come to the brink of utter ruin,
Enjoy the Wife of Your Youth
15 ๐บ Drink water out of your own cistern,
16 ๐บ Should your springs overflow in the streets,
17 ๐บ Let them be for yourself alone,
18 ๐บ Let your spring be blessed.
19 ๐บ A loving doe and a graceful deerโ
20 ๐บ For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress?

22 ๐บ The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him.
23 ๐บ He will die for lack of instruction.
Proverbs Chapter 6:1-35
Warning Against Surety

3 ๐บ Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself,
4 ๐บ Give no sleep to your eyes,
5 ๐บ Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
The Lesson from the Ant
6 ๐บ Go to the ant, you sluggard.
7 ๐บ which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
8 ๐บ provides her bread in the summer,
9 ๐บ How long will you sleep, sluggard?
10 ๐บ A little sleep, a little slumber,
11 ๐บ so your poverty will come as a robber,
The Worthless Person
12 ๐บ A worthless person, a man of iniquity,
13 ๐บ who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet,
14 ๐บ in whose heart is perverseness,
15 ๐บ Therefore his calamity will come suddenly.

Warning Against Adultery
20 ๐บ My son, keep your fatherโcommandment,
21 ๐บ Bind them continually on your heart.
22 ๐บ When you walk, it will lead you.
23 ๐บ For the commandment is a lamp,
24 ๐บ to keep you from the immoral woman,
25 ๐บ Donโt lust after her beauty in your heart,
26 ๐บ For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread.
27 ๐บ Can a man scoop fire into his lap,
28 ๐บ Or can one walk on hot coals,
29 ๐บ So is he who goes in to his neighborโwife.

31 ๐บ but if he is found, he shall restore seven times.
32 ๐บ He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding.

6 ๐บ For at the window of my house,
7 ๐บ I saw among the simple ones.
8 ๐บ passing through the street near her corner,
9 ๐บ in the twilight, in the evening of the day,
10 ๐บ Behold, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute,
11 ๐บ She is loud and defiant.

22 ๐บ โYahweh possessed me in the beginning of his work,
23 ๐บ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning,
24 ๐บ When there were no depths, I was born,
25 ๐บ Before the mountains were settled in place,
26 ๐บ while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields,
27 ๐บ When he established the heavens, I was there.
28 ๐บ when he established the clouds above,
29 ๐บ when he gave to the sea its boundary,
30 ๐บ then I was the craftsman by his side.
31 ๐บ rejoicing in his whole world.
