Isaiah 57:21 (KJV) There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
Everyone is looking for external and lasting inner peace. In the world lasting inner peace it cannot be found. The peace searched out is the absence of war but they come and go. People mediate and find some temporal peace that then vanishes when that tranquility is disturbed. Jesus said in John 14:27 (KJV) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The peace He promised is not the absence of war, the absence of trouble, the absence of commotion, etc.. It is a peace that can not be given by the world, mediation won’t be able to achieve it. Actually any human endeavour cannot achieve or obtain it. The problem is actually sin. Sin separates us from God and therefore one will no the able to have that peace with God. It is freely given and needs to be received by believing in Jesus, the gospel and putting our full trust in Him. This peace is given to us as an inheritance. When people don’t believe they are in a state of separation from God, actually His enemies, and therefore not at peace with Him. The peace Jesus promised is two fold. One, is having peace with God because we have been reconciled. Two, it is a peace we can experience in the midst of the storms of life. This peace allows us not to be anxious, trouble or afraid if we let it our heart be so by giving it all over to Jesus and placing our full trust in Him.
