Matthew 4:12-17 (KJV)
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Let us also read the parallel verses in Mark and Luke.
Mark 1:14-15 (KJV)
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Luke 4:14-15 (KJV)
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

Let’s look at what He preached:

• “Mark 1:15 (KJV) And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
  ◦ Fulfilment of many of the prophecy’s about salvation, the Christ, etc. are being fulfilled
  ◦ GOD Kingdom is coming
  ◦ Repentance
  ◦ and believing in the good news
• “Matthew 4:17 (KJV) From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
  ◦ Preparing people for the Kingdom of God – realising we are sinners and repentances prepares us for the Kingdom of God
  ◦ GOD wants people to be ready
  ◦ Turn go GOD way from what you are doing
  ◦ Have a clean fresh start in walking GOD’s way.

Because the light is there repentance is required one needs to turn from darkness to the Kingdom of God – light. We have to choose between light and darkness and if we choose the light we have to repent otherwise we have by default chosen the darkness.
