1 Timothy 1:19-20 (WEB)
19 holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith;
20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered to Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.

When someone’s conscience gets violated their faith is in danger of getting shipwrecked and being shipwrecked can result in blasphemy.

So how does a conscience become violated? It is through the PRACTICE of sin. Note the emphasis on practice. While we are here on earth we all can sin because of our flesh and we have to decide every day to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh. “1 John 1:7-10 (WEB) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. [8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

It is when sin becomes habitual to such an extend that one thinks it is ok and rejecting the conviction of the Holy Spirit. “John 16:8 (WEB) When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment;”. Is it when ones heart, that was soft before GOD, becomes so hard. When the heart becomes hard it can reject GOD’s work and even blasphemes Him. This is a very dangerous place to be.

“Mark 3:28-29 (WEB) Most certainly I tell you, all sins of the descendants of man will be forgiven, including their blasphemies with which they may blaspheme; [29] but whoever may blaspheme against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation.””

This and falling from grace is a very big and divisive subject and we might look at it further another time. Have a look at: the unforgivable sin, sin leading to death, and falling from grace.

We are living in a time where we can see what is described in 2 Timothy 3:1-9 “(WEB) But know this, that in the last days, grievous times will come. [2] For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, not lovers of good, [4] traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; [5] holding a form of godliness, but having denied its power. Turn away from these, also. [6] For some of these are people who creep into houses, and take captive gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, [7] always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. [8] Even as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so do these also oppose the truth; men corrupted in mind, who concerning the faith are rejected. [9] But they will proceed no further. For their folly will be evident to all men, as theirs also came to be.”

Therefore let us be encouraged no matter what we face to fight the good fight of our faith (1 Timothy 1:18) not letting anything corrupt our conscience. Let us keep looking to Jesus Christ.
“Hebrews 12:1-7 (WEB) Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us, [2] looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. [3] For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls. [4] You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin; [5] and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; [6] For whom the Lord loves, he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.” [7] It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?”

Let us keep on:

• Loving from a pure heart, a good conscience and sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5)
• Clinging to our faith (1 Timothy 1:19)
• Keeping our conscience pure (1 Timothy 1:19)
