John 15:12-17 (WEB) Jesus Christ said:
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
14 You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.
15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.
16 You didn’t choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
17 “I command these things to you, that you may love one another.
Here is a contemplation on friendship and love from someone anonymous.
Over the past weeks, I have exchanged many letters with people from different countries, different backgrounds, and different stories. Some sought friendship, some spoke of loneliness, some spoke of dreams, and others offered promises of wealth or opportunities that seemed too good to be true. Every conversation reminded me of one simple truth: The deepest need of every human heart is not another person, more money, greater success, or a better future. Our deepest need is Jesus Christ. People long to be loved because God created us for Himself. We search for meaning because eternity has been placed within our hearts. We chase security through possessions, careers, relationships, and achievements, yet none of these can quiet the restless soul. Only Christ can. I have often been asked why nearly every conversation I have returns to Jesus. The answer is simple: I cannot separate Him from who I am.
- If I spoke about my hobbies without mentioning Christ, you would know my interests but not my heart.
- If I spoke about my dreams without mentioning Christ, you would know my plans but not my purpose.
- If I spoke about my life without mentioning Christ, you would know my story but not the Author who redeemed it. Jesus is not merely part of my life.
He is my life. Like everyone else, I have known disappointment. I have known disappointment. There have been unanswered questions, painful seasons, financial struggles, and losses that I could not understand. Yet through every valley one truth has remained unshaken: I have never been angry with God. I have never stopped trusting Him. There were moments when I could not understand His hand, but I learned to trust His heart. That has made all the difference. The world tells us that happiness comes when we find the right person, achieve our dreams, or accumulate enough wealth. But Scripture reveals something far more profound. Our greatest problem is not loneliness. It is not poverty. It is not disappointment. It is sin. Every one of us has fallen short of God’s holiness. No amount of kindness, morality, religion, education, or good works can remove our guilt before a perfectly holy God. If salvation depended on us, there would be no hope. But God… Those two words changed history forever. Because of His immeasurable love, the Father sent His only Son into the world. Jesus Christ lived the life we could never live. He fulfilled every command we had broken. He loved perfectly. He obeyed perfectly. He was completely without sin. Then, in astonishing love, He willingly went to the cross—not because He deserved judgment, but because we did. There He bore our sins. There He carried our shame. There He received the wrath that should have fallen upon us. Then, before giving up His spirit, He declared the most victorious words ever spoken: “It is finished. The debt was paid. Justice was satisfied. Salvation was accomplished. Three days later, the stone was rolled away, not so Christ could escape the tomb, but so the world could see it was empty. Jesus Christ is alive. Because He lives, sinners can be forgiven. Because He lives, death has lost its sting. Because He lives, hope is no longer wishful thinking but certain reality. This is why I continue speaking about Christ. Not because I wish to win arguments. Not because I want to appear religious. Not because I believe I am better than anyone else. I speak about Him because there is no greater love than the love demonstrated at Calvary. There is no greater treasure than the Gospel. There is no greater Friend than Jesus. There is no greater message than His finished work. One day every photograph will fade. Every song will become silent. Every earthly relationship will end. Every possession will be left behind. Every human achievement will pass away. But Jesus Christ remains forever. His grace never fades. His promises never fail. His mercy never runs dry. His love never changes. If my life accomplishes anything, I pray it will not be that people remember my name. I pray they remember His. If one weary soul comes to know the Saviour because of a conversation, a photograph, a song, or a letter, then every effort will have been worthwhile. My prayer for everyone who crosses my path is the same: May you discover that the greatest relationship you can ever have is with Jesus Christ. May you know the peace that comes through His finished work on the cross. May you experience the forgiveness that cannot be earned, only received by grace through faith. May you discover that you are deeply loved by the God who created you. And when this brief earthly journey is over, may we stand together before the throne of God—not boasting in ourselves, but rejoicing forever in the Lamb who was slain and who lives forevermore. To Him alone be all glory, honour, praise, and worship. Stay beautifully blessed in Christ!🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏
