11 ๐‘บ All her people sigh.

Is There Any Sorrow Like My Sorrow?

12 ๐‘บIs it nothing to you, all you who pass by?

13 ๐‘บFrom on high has he sent fire into my bones,

14 ๐‘บThe yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand.

15 ๐‘บThe Lord has set at nothing all my mighty men within me.

16 ๐‘บFor these things I weep.

17 ๐‘บ Zion spreads out her hands.

The LORD Is Righteous

18 ๐‘บYahweh is righteous,

19 ๐‘บI called for my lovers,

20 ๐‘บLook, Yahweh; for I am in distress.

21 ๐‘บThey have heard that I sigh.

22 ๐‘บ ‘Let all their wickedness come before you.

The LORDโ€™s Anger Against Zion

1 ๐‘บ How has the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger!

2 ๐‘บ The Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob

3 ๐‘บ He has cut off all the horn of Israel in fierce anger.

4 ๐‘บ He has bent his bow like an enemy.

5 ๐‘บ The Lord has become as an enemy.

8 ๐‘บ Yahweh has purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion.

9 ๐‘บ Her gates have sunk into the ground.

10 ๐‘บ The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground.

The Peopleโ€™s Suffering

11 ๐‘บ My eyes fail with tears.

12 ๐‘บ They ask their mothers,

13 ๐‘บ What shall I testify to you?

14 ๐‘บ Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you.

15 ๐‘บ All that pass by clap their hands at you.

16 ๐‘บ All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you.

17 ๐‘บ Yahweh has done that which he planned.

Cry Out to the Lord

18 ๐‘บ Their heart cried to the Lord.

19 ๐‘บ Arise, cry out in the night,

20 ๐‘บLook, Yahweh, and see to whom you have done thus!

21 ๐‘บThe youth and the old man lie on the ground in the streets.

22 ๐‘บYou have called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side.

The Man Who Has Seen Affliction

1 ๐‘บ I am the man who has seen affliction

2 ๐‘บ He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness,

3 ๐‘บ Surely he turns his hand against me

4 ๐‘บ He has made my flesh and my skin old.

5 ๐‘บ He has built against me,

6 ๐‘บ He has made me dwell in dark places,

7 ๐‘บ He has walled me about, so that I canโ€™t go out.

8 ๐‘บ Yes, when I cry, and call for help,

9 ๐‘บ He has walled up my ways with cut stone.

10 ๐‘บ He is to me as a bear lying in wait,

11 ๐‘บ He has turned away my path,

12 ๐‘บ He has bent his bow,

13 ๐‘บ He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my kidneys.

14 ๐‘บ I have become a derision to all my people,

15 ๐‘บ He has filled me with bitterness.

16 ๐‘บ He has also broken my teeth with gravel.

17 ๐‘บ You have removed my soul far away from peace.

18 ๐‘บ I said, ‘My strength has perished,

19 ๐‘บ Remember my affliction and my misery,

20 ๐‘บ My soul still remembers them,

21 ๐‘บ This I recall to my mind;

Great Is Your Faithfulness

22 ๐‘บ It is because of Yahwehโ€™loving kindnesses that we are not consumed,

23 ๐‘บ They are new every morning.

24 ๐‘บYahweh is my portion,’ says my soul.

25 ๐‘บ Yahweh is good to those who wait for him,

26 ๐‘บ It is good that a man should hope

27 ๐‘บ It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28 ๐‘บ Let him sit alone and keep silence,

29 ๐‘บ Let him put his mouth in the dust,

30 ๐‘บ Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him.

31 ๐‘บ For the Lord will not cast off forever.

32 ๐‘บ For though he causes grief,

33 ๐‘บ For he does not afflict willingly,

34 ๐‘บ To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

35 ๐‘บ to turn away the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

36 ๐‘บ to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord doesnโ€™t approve.

37 ๐‘บ Who is he who says, and it comes to pass,

38 ๐‘บ Doesnโ€™t evil and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?

39 ๐‘บ Why should a living man complain,

Let Us Examine Our Ways

40 ๐‘บ Let us search and try our ways,

41 ๐‘บ Letโ€™lift up our heart with our hands to God in the heavens.

42 ๐‘บWe have transgressed and have rebelled.

43 ๐‘บYou have covered us with anger and pursued us.

44 ๐‘บ You have covered yourself with a cloud,

45 ๐‘บ You have made us an off-scouring and refuse

46 ๐‘บAll our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

47 ๐‘บ Terror and the pit have come on us,

48 ๐‘บ My eye runs down with streams of water,

49 ๐‘บ My eye pours down

50 ๐‘บ until Yahweh looks down,

51 ๐‘บ My eye affects my soul,

52 ๐‘บ They have chased me relentlessly like a bird,

53 ๐‘บ They have cut off my life in the dungeon,

54 ๐‘บ Waters flowed over my head.

You Heard My Plea

55 ๐‘บ I called on your name, Yahweh,

56 ๐‘บ You heard my voice:

57 ๐‘บ You came near in the day that I called on you.

58 ๐‘บ Lord, you have pleaded the causes of my soul.

59 ๐‘บ Yahweh, you have seen my wrong.

60 ๐‘บ You have seen all their vengeance

61 ๐‘บ You have heard their reproach, Yahweh,

62 ๐‘บ the lips of those that rose up against me,

63 ๐‘บ You see their sitting down and their rising up.

64 ๐‘บ You will pay them back, Yahweh,

65 ๐‘บ You will give them hardness of heart,

66 ๐‘บ You will pursue them in anger,

The Gold Has Grown Dim

1 ๐‘บ How the gold has become dim!

2 ๐‘บ The precious sons of Zion,

3 ๐‘บ Even the jackals offer their breast.

4 ๐‘บ The tongue of the nursing child clings to the roof of his mouth for thirst.

5 ๐‘บ Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets.

6 ๐‘บ For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom,

7 ๐‘บ Her nobles were purer than snow.

8 ๐‘บ Their appearance is blacker than a coal.

9 ๐‘บ Those who are killed with the sword are better than those who are killed with hunger;

10 ๐‘บ The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children.

The LORDโ€™s Wrath Completed

11 ๐‘บ Yahweh has accomplished his wrath.

12 ๐‘บ The kings of the earth didnโ€™t believe,

13 ๐‘บ It is because of the sins of her prophets

14 ๐‘บ They wander as blind men in the streets.

15 ๐‘บGo away!’ they cried to them.

16 ๐‘บ Yahwehโ€™anger has scattered them.

17 ๐‘บ Our eyes still fail,

18 ๐‘บ They hunt our steps,

19 ๐‘บ Our pursuers were swifter than the eagles of the sky.

20 ๐‘บ The breath of our nostrils,

Edomโ€™s Judgment

21 ๐‘บ Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom,

22 ๐‘บ The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Zion.

A Prayer for Restoration

1 ๐‘บ Remember, Yahweh, what has come on us.

2 ๐‘บ Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers,

3 ๐‘บ We are orphans and fatherless.

4 ๐‘บ We must pay for water to drink.

5 ๐‘บ Our pursuers are on our necks.

6 ๐‘บ We have given our hands to the Egyptians,

7 ๐‘บ Our fathers sinned, and are no more.

8 ๐‘บ Servants rule over us.

9 ๐‘บ We get our bread at the peril of our lives,

10 ๐‘บ Our skin is black like an oven,

11 ๐‘บ They ravished the women in Zion,

12 ๐‘บ Princes were hanged up by their hands.

13 ๐‘บ The young men carry millstones.

14 ๐‘บ The elders have ceased from the gate,

15 ๐‘บ The joy of our heart has ceased.

16 ๐‘บ The crown has fallen from our head.

17 ๐‘บ For this our heart is faint.

18 ๐‘บ for the mountain of Zion, which is desolate.

19 ๐‘บ You, Yahweh, remain forever.

20 ๐‘บ Why do you forget us forever,

21 ๐‘บ Turn us to yourself, Yahweh, and we will be turned.

22 ๐‘บ But you have utterly rejected us.
