Young man sitting beneath cherry trees beside a glowing anatomical heart

A reflection on the human heart – 2026.09.02

Jeremiah 17:9-10 (WEB)
9 The heart is deceitful above all things and it is exceedingly corrupt. Who can know it?
10 “I, Yahweh, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

Here is a contemplation from someone anonymous.

I was reflecting on how strange the human heart can be.

We can dream about meeting someone we have never truly known. We can imagine their voice, their eyes, their touch, their presence beside us. In a dream, everything feels real. There is no distance, no uncertainty, no unanswered question. For a few moments, imagination becomes reality.

And then we wake up.

  • The room is the same.
  • The morning is quiet.
  • The dream is gone.

And suddenly we realise that something can feel incredibly real and still not be reality.

That thought stayed with me.

Because perhaps life itself is like that.

  • We spend years building dreams.
  • We dream about love.
  • We dream about success.
  • We dream about the perfect home, the perfect relationship, the perfect future.
  • We dream about becoming someone important, finding someone special, experiencing something extraordinary.

And there is nothing wrong with dreaming.

But one day every human being wakes up from this earthly life.

And when that moment comes, the question will not be:

“Did I have a beautiful life?”

It will be:

“Did I know Christ and am I known by Him?”

That is the question that cuts through everything.

Because eternity does not care how impressive our photographs were.

  • It does not care how many countries we visited.
  • It does not care how much money we accumulated.
  • It does not care how attractive we appeared.
  • It does not care how many people wanted us.
  • It does not care how carefully we constructed our image.

One day:

  • Every illusion falls away.
  • Every mask falls.
  • Every possession loses its power.
  • Every earthly title becomes meaningless.

And the soul stands before the One who created it.

That is why the Gospel is not merely a comforting religious message. It is an awakening.

Wake up.

  • Not tomorrow.
  • Not when life becomes easier.
  • Not when everything is finally under control.
  • Now.

Because the greatest danger is not that life will become difficult.

The greatest danger is that we will become comfortable while remaining spiritually lost.

  • We can be busy and never think about eternity.
  • We can be loved and never know the Author of love.
  • We can admire creation and never seek the Creator.
  • We can talk about Jesus and still never surrender to Jesus.
  • We can know facts about Christ without actually knowing Christ.

And that is why the Gospel goes deeper than morality.

Jesus did not come merely to make bad people behave better.

  • He came to make spiritually dead people alive.
  • He did not come merely to decorate our old life.
  • He came to give us a new one.
  • He did not come to teach us how to climb our way up to God.
  • He came down to us because we could never reach Him by our own strength.

The cross is where human pride loses its argument.

Because at the cross we discover two uncomfortable truths at exactly the same time:

Our sin is far more serious than we wanted to believe.

And:

God’s love is far greater than we dared to hope.

Jesus did not look at our brokenness and say, “Make yourself worthy, then come.”

  • He came into our brokenness.
  • He carried our sin.
  • He bore our judgment.
  • He stretched out His hands.

And He said through His finished work:

“It is finished.”

  • Not “Try harder.”
  • Not “Earn it.”
  • Not “Prove yourself.”

Finished.

Grace is shocking because it leaves no room for human boasting.

  • We come with nothing. – Christ provides everything.
  • We bring guilt. – He gives forgiveness.
  • We bring death. – He gives life.
  • We bring emptiness. – He gives Himself.

And perhaps this is the greatest irony of human existence:

We spend our lives trying to find something that will complete us, while God is calling us to Someone who already has.

Christ is not the missing piece of the puzzle.

Christ is the picture.

Everything else must be understood in relation to Him.

  • Love without Christ can become possession.
  • Beauty without Christ eventually becomes vanity.
  • Success without Christ becomes emptiness.
  • Freedom without Christ can become slavery to our desires.
  • Relationships without Christ can become attempts to make another human being carry the weight only God can carry.

But when Christ is at the centre, everything finds its proper place.

  • Then we can love someone without worshipping them.
  • We can appreciate beauty without being enslaved by it.
  • We can enjoy success without making it our identity.
  • We can lose something precious without losing our entire reason to live.
  • We can stand beside another person and say:

“I don’t need you to be my god. I want to love you as a gift from God.”

That changes everything.

Because the deepest form of love is not saying,

“You complete me.”

It is saying,

“Christ is enough, and therefore I am free to love you without trying to possess you.”

And perhaps that is what genuine relationship should look like.

  • Two imperfect people who know they are not saviours.
  • Two people who know that neither can heal the deepest wound of the other.
  • Two people who can walk together without replacing God with one another.
  • Two people who can laugh together, cry together, explore creation together, sit silently together—and still know that their ultimate hope is not found in each other.

Because even the best human relationship is temporary.

Christ is eternal.

One day every earthly conversation will end.

  • Every photograph will fade.
  • Every journey will finish.
  • Every sunset will eventually be followed by darkness.

But for those who belong to Christ, darkness is not the final chapter.

  • There is resurrection.
  • There is eternity.
  • There is a day when faith becomes sight.
  • There is a day when the One we trusted without seeing will stand before us in glory.

And perhaps then we will understand what we could not fully understand here:

That:

  • Every disappointment was temporary.
  • Every tear was temporary.
  • Every unanswered question was temporary.
  • Every earthly loss was temporary.

But Christ was never temporary.

He was there before the beginning.

He is here in the middle.

And He will remain when everything else is gone.

So I don’t want to live merely chasing beautiful moments.

I want to live awake.

  • Awake to grace.
  • Awake to eternity.
  • Awake to the cross.
  • Awake to the empty tomb.
  • Awake to the reality that every ordinary morning is actually a mercy.

Because if I opened my eyes today, it means God has given me another day to know Him, to love Him, to serve Him, and to point someone else toward Him.

And perhaps that is the real miracle hidden inside an ordinary day.

Not that we received everything we wanted.

But that we received another opportunity to turn our eyes toward Christ.

  • Another opportunity to repent.
  • Another opportunity to forgive.
  • Another opportunity to love.
  • Another opportunity to tell someone:

You don’t have to spend your entire life searching for what cannot save you.

There is a Saviour.

His name is Jesus.

And when every dream finally ends, He will still be real.

When every earthly light goes out, He will still be the Light.

When everything we built is gone, He will still be our Rock.

When we have nothing left to offer, His grace will still be enough.

And when we finally awaken from this temporary life into eternity, there will be one truth that will never change:

Jesus Christ was never merely part of the journey.

He was the destination all along.

Stay amazingly blessed in Christ always!🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️
