1 Timothy 1:19-20 (WEB)
19 holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith;
20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered to Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
Let us be encouraged like Paul encouraged Timothy to hold on to and keep our conscience clear in Jesus Christ, instead of getting our conscience corrupted by this world. It also encourages us to be conscious of well-doing, doing the good works GOD has prepared for us. “Ephesians 2:10 (WEB) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.”. We also can see that one can reject a good conscience which is something to be avoided.
One of the ways Paul’s showed Timothy keep our conscience in a good state is by what we discussed on waging the good warfare with the prophesies given us. To do this is very much related to what we discovered on holding on to our faith in a previous devotion.
Also, following the instructions in regard to our faith and conscience themself will also help us wage the good warfare.
Here are some ways we can keep our conscience clean:
- We are not to cause a lack of understanding towards GOD and people cloud our conscience (Acts 24:16).
- Let us not get offended by what we perceive by the action or lack of action of others (Acts 24:16).
- Let us not be disobedient to GOD (Acts 24:16).
- Let us not do things that go against our conscience (1 Corinthians 8:7). For by so doing repeatedly we are dulling our conscience and over a period of time hardening our heart.
- Let us consider our bothers and sisters and not do things that would cause them to stumble and corrupt their conscience (1 Corinthians 8:1-13).
- Let us be obedient to the laws of the land (Romans 13:2-6).
- Let us not ask questions that could lead us to corrupt our conscience (1 Corinthians 10:25).
- Let us consider those outside of the faith and not be a stumbling block to them and their conscience (1 Corinthians 10:23-33).
- Let us not entertain false doctrines for this can hurt our conscience (1 Timothy 1:5)
QUOTE“Titus 1:15-16 (WEB) To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. [16] They profess that they know God, but by their deeds they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.”
If we corrupted our conscience we need to get it cleaned up. This is only possible through what Jesus Christ did on the cross. We have to confess our sins and turn away from them. Then Jesus Christ will was us clean including our conscience.
“Hebrews 9:14-15 (WEB) how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? [15] For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”
“Hebrews 10:19-22 (WEB) Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, [20] by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; [21] and having a great priest over God’s house, [22] let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water,”
